The Marine Teachers Association of Queensland is a group of over 400 individuals who are involved with the teaching of marine studies and marine education subjects in Queensland education systems.

Our Association has ten branches covering the coast of Queensland:
Gold Coast - The border to the southern boundary of Beenleigh
Brisbane South - Beenleigh to the Brisbane River
Brisbane North - Brisbane River to the southern boundary of Caloundra
Sunshine Coast - Caloundra to the northern boundary of Gympie
Wide Bay - Northern boundary of Gympie to the southern boundary of Gladstone
Rockhampton - Gladstone to the southern boundary of Sarina
Mackay - Sarina to the southern boundary of Bowen
Townsville - Bowen to Cardwell
Far North Queensland - Cardwell to North of Cooktown
Cape and Torres Straits - North of Cooktown to PNG Border

The principal goals of the association are to promote fellowship amongst teachers by:

to protect and enhance the marine environment as well as promote its cultural heritage |

to promote, develop and publicise all aspects of marine teaching to encourage classroom marine teachers to play and active role in their professional development by running an annual conference, the price structure of which shall encourage "whole staffroom attendance" |

to foster links with other organisations interested in marine education to develop useful policy documents from time to time that will assist in the smooth running of the subject in schools by means of general meetings, conferences, regional branches and a newsletter, disseminate and exchange information and ideas amongst those concerned with marine teaching |

To conducting a regional community event called the Marine Olympics to promote safety, marine environmental awareness and best environmental practice in the sea |

to assist in the development of curriculum materials and syllabi in a curriculum exchange of ideas |

to foster partnerships with government and industry sponsors to secure funding |

to mentor new marine teachers into the profession |

to provide training for marine teachers |
