Marine Teachers position at Tagai College
Thursday, 29 October 2009

We wish to advertise a Marine Teachers position through the MTAQ at Tagai College for 2010. It is a great opportunity to work with a range of Marine Agencies (Showcase award for Partnerships in Marine 2008) and includes excellent professional development opportunities. Tagai has incredible Marine resources with the reef within metres of the school gate. With Tagai being Queensland's first Marine Discovery Centre, 2010 will be an exciting year for a passionate marine teacher.

MDCA or Marine Discovery Centres Australia at this years AGM have included their first Queensland site in their national network of centres. Tagai College is proud to be the location for this centre. Our marine program runs across 17 campuses and works closely with a wide range of community groups and govenrment agencies (2008 showcase award for partnerships & innovation in Marine). Our current discovery centre will be undergoing a renovation in 2010 to act as a visit hub for tourists as well as an education centre for students and community. We are currently having discussions with Qld Tourism in regards to our centres expansion plans.

For 2010 we are chasing a passionate and effective Marine Studies teacher to work within our college. The development of the Marine Discovery Centre will allow the teacher opportunities to also engage with community and a wide range of professionals working throughout the Marine Industry, which is such a great opportunity for a Marine teacher who has previously completed a Marine Degree to both maintain currency within the industry and develop their own contacts and networks. The position has come up because the extent to which we work with marine agencies has meant a position has been extenally funded for myself to develop Land & Sea education programs for schools across our college. There are cetrtainly enough challenges to teaching within our college and to be effective does require you to have a certain skill set, but if you have it this is the best job there is!

Regards,
