QCAA - Markers for the Writing Task (WT) and the Short Response (SR) subtests

27 November 17

Markers for the Writing Task (WT) and the Short Response (SR) subtests are selected from a marker pool, which consists of teachers or former teachers from across Queensland.  Each year, the QCAA recruits markers to add to the pool.  The primary objective of the marking operation is to grade student responses validly and reliably according to a prepared marking guide (WT) or item-specific marking schemes (SR). Markers gain valuable professional experience and are paid for their marking and training. Marker training contributes to continuing professional development (CPD) points for registration renewal.  Schools benefit from having teachers who are markers. Teachers who participate in the marking gain a better understanding of the nature of the test, the marking operation and the quality assurance processes that are in place. This knowledge assists them in preparing students for the test. Because marking takes place in the first week of the September state school holidays, there is no disruption to school staffing arrangements.
