MAJOR PROJECT PARTNERSHIPS

MTAQ has established the following community and government partnership projects since 1994:

  • 1995 – (October) Our first conference and first regional MAST days
  • 1995 – 2010 – Seaweek – Marine Education Society of Australia (MESA).
  • 1995 – 2010 – Project Reef Ed – Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
  • 1996 – We win our first battle with MSQ
    • We begin traineeships for our students
  • 1997 – Cairns conference record
  • 1998 – 2010 – Boatsafe Marine Licence scheme development for school students – Maritime Safety and Yachting Queensland.
  • 1999 – Marine and Aquatic Practices Syllabus Introduced
  • 2000 – AUSMEPA and Junior Marine Studies begin
  • 2004 – 2010 – Reef Guardian Schools Program Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
  • 2003 – 2009 – Coast and Marine Education Syllabus, Yachting Queensland, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Education and Marine Safety Queensland and Wet Paper Publications.
  • 2007 – 2010 – Coral bleaching workshops and Field Trips to University of Queensland Heron Island.
  • 1998 – 2010 – Coxswain traineeships for students and structured work placements.
  • 1995 – 2010 – Development of a Marine Safety Days for students.
  • 1998 – 2002 – Worked with the Board of Senior Secondary School Studies in the development of the Marine and Aquatic Practices Syllabus.
  • 1998 – 2005 – Worked with the Australian Student Traineeship Foundation to secure industry placements in Marine Ecotourism and Conservation.
  • 2003 – 2010 – Worked with the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) in the development of the Marine and Aquatic Practices Syllabus.
  • 2003 – Marine Studies syllabus approved by the Queensland Studies Authority for use in Queensland schools in 2004. Schools developed work programs that were submitted to the QSA for approval.
  • 2012 – MTAQ successfully lobbied the QSA for revision of the Marine Studies syllabus which was fully supported and resourced after implementation of the National Senior Sciences Curriculum.
  • 2016 – 2017 – MTAQ successfully lobbied the Queensland Curriculum Assessment Authority (QCAA) to keep the Marine Science syllabus as part of Queensland’s new Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance (SATE).
  • 2017 – 2020 – MTAQ revised it’s website and worked with QCAA in the development of the new Senior Marine syllabus
  • 2020 – 2021 – MTAQ Provided free membership to members and introduced up-skilling courses such a snorkel guides
  • 2021 – 2022 – MTAQ revised it’s website and continued with the snorkel guide courses
